About Spencer Charrington
I’m a History major at McDaniel College, from New York. I’m training to be a high school history teacher.
I’m Spencer Charrington. I grew up in New York and I’m in my last year at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, where I study History and Secondary Education. I graduate in May 2027.
This fall I’m student teaching World History in Carroll County, Maryland, first at Westminster High School and now at West Middle School. Before that I taught in New York, including a summer back at the Windward School, where I was a student from second to eighth grade.
I’m looking for my first job teaching high school history, starting in fall 2027.

A year in Budapest
I spent the 2024-25 school year at McDaniel’s campus in Budapest. I lived on my own, got around by tram and used the city as a base to see nine other countries.
For most of that year I was the person who couldn’t read the signs. I think about that a lot now when a student is new to my classroom.
“His lessons go well beyond dates and events, offering students genuine insight into the lives of the people who shaped the world around them.”

Outside the classroom
Last year I was president of the International Perspectives Club at McDaniel. We ran events with other student groups on campus, including a night on Black history around the world with our NAACP chapter and a winter traditions table on the quad.
I’ve also spent two summers as a counselor at Sunrise Day Camp, a camp for kids with cancer and their siblings.
When I’m not doing any of that I’m usually reading. Here’s what’s on my shelf on Goodreads.
